Trust

As a reminder to fast and pray tomorrow I want to remind you of one of my favorite stories in the Old Covenant.  I have been reading in Genesis and am always blest as if for the first time when I read of Abram’s trust in God.  Remember with me the story from Chapter 13 when Abram has been made aware of his inheritance for all of Canaan.  Shortly after which Lot, his nephew whom he had brought with him on the journey, came to him with a proposition.  It had come to him that the size of their holding had grown so large that it was not good for them to remain in the same area.  Abram took him where they could see in all directions and said, “you choose, if you go left then I will go right and vice versa, completely trusting that God would cover him.  Well, Lot naturally choose the most fertile Jordan valley and Abram had to accept the rocky terrain of Canaan. Jumping ahead, we all remember the trouble Lot found for himself once he gravitated all the way into Sodom which was in the area he chose.  “God is my refuge and God is my strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore I will not fear, though the earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea.”  Psalm 46.  Oh to have a glimmer of the faith and trust of Abram.  I don’t know about you but when I pray my way through my morning paper I appreciate being reminded of these kinds of stories.  As my sister Van said in her morning post, God is in complete control and we need not fear.  But we must be living ready for His coming again.  It seems that we are being attacked on all sides by evil both foreign and domestic.  As we fast and pray tomorrow, let’s pray the Lord’s prayer from Matthew 6:9 and emphasize “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”   Maranatha!  Jim

God bless you and God bless our nation!

LIFE meets tonight at 7:00 and we plan to continue to follow Paul as he teaches Timothy and us how to manage believers.
