The prophet Zechariah spoke for God to Jews living in Palestine after their exile in Babylonia, which he credited to their sinful practices, around 480 BC. He taught of the ultimate triumph of the Messiah, the great Shepherd who would come to reign over a new Kingdom of perfect harmony.
He had a vision of the end times and the return of the promised Messiah. He told of a time when a neighbor would fight his neighbor and nations would rise against Israel and he prophesied their ultimate doom. I was lead to read this lesser-known prophet through my study in 1st Timothy in preparation for our Tuesday night Bible study. Paul, some 544 years later was teaching Timothy about the dangers of “latter times”, as revealed by the same Spirit that provoked Zack. Paul warned him of the danger of apostasy (falling away) of deception (deceiving spirits) and of false teachings (doctrines of demons). Are we faced with any of this today?
At the end of his book, Zack reveals that everyone who is left, of all the nations which come against Jerusalem, shall go up every year to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts at the Feast of Tabernacles to celebrate the exodus from Egypt.
I am not a prophet, but I am appalled at the division I read about all over the world. It seems to me that false teachings of the doctrines of demons and the deception by deceiving spirits are teaching many to fall away and depart from the Way. What are we to do???? Read what Paul said to Timothy and us. If we are not instructing the brethren in these things we are not following and obeying the commands of our Lord Jesus!
