Reminder

I feel a sermon coming on here!  That is a line in a song written by one of my favorite philosophers, a Savannah son, Johnny Mercer.  The song says you have to Accent the Positive, Eliminate the Negative, and don’t mess around with mister in-between. God had me thinking about anxiety recently as I have heard way too much of it from all angles.  I am reminded of other plaques as Covid has been called.  They occurred in Egypt many years ago and God’s people prevailed through faith and were protected.  God accomplished what He wanted and His people were freed by obedience and faith.

In our Bible study tonight we are planning to see what God thinks about anxiety and work together to eliminate it.  I have said before that someone has said there are 365 references to “fear not” in some form in the Bible.  I believe God thinks it is important and He gives us a reference for each day.  I also think that anxiety goes hand in hand with fear not and I found 23 verses about it.  I am sure there are more but I want to make us aware of how God sees anxiety in our lives.  I am going to list them here for your reading pleasure, in no particular order:  Romans 10:11, Philippians 4:6, 1 John 4:18, 1 Peter 3:14, Isaiah 35:4, 40:31, 41:10, Hebrews 13:5-6, Psalm 56:3, John 14:27, Matthew 11:28-30, Luke 12:24-30, Proverbs 3:5-6, Romans 8:38-39, Jeremiah 17:7-8, John 14:9, Joshua 1:9, Luke 12:22, Matthew 6:25-34, Psalm 34:4, 46:1-3, 94:19-23.

God does not want His people walking around in anxiety and fear!  I fully realize we are in a very stressful time with Covid and what I consider our most important election ever just two weeks away.  BUT GOD!!!!  Grab one or more of these great scriptures and hang on, we win according to my Bible.  This week and next will be our last fasts before the election and I invite you to focus on God’s will and continued blessing on our great county.  Be blessed in His name, Jim

Life meets tonight at 7:00, please come prepared to share your favorite anti-anxiety scripture and maybe a testimony of how it sustains you in these times.

PS: Speaking of anxiety I just received word that our Granddaughter, Alison has just been admitted to the hospital with Covid in Effingham County.  Please pray for her and her family.
