Prayer Request

I read this morning from 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 and it started me thinking about our liberty and our freedom and the current threats on both.  With all efforts to stay clear of politics I would like to share my thoughts. Paul talks a lot about liberty and freedom so I wanted to see the difference in them.  He says that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. And in Galatians 5:1, he says Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.  I think we have come to think the two terms are synonyms, but they are not.

Thomas Jefferson, when he was writing the Declaration of Independence thought a lot about the meaning and said, “Freedom usually means to be free from something; whereas liberty usually means to be free to do something.”  Makes sense when we think to whom he was writing.  King George had taken away many of the colonies freedoms.  He wanted freedom from the oppression of England so that we would have the liberty to do something on our own.  In philosophy, liberty involves free will as contrasted with determinism…thus liberty entails the responsible use of freedom under the law without depriving anyone else of their freedom.  Wikipedia.

We are to use our liberty to glorify God, so when your heart is full of the Holy Spirit and you want to testify to His goodness and your flesh wants to hold you in the seat use 2 Corinthians 3:17 to claim your liberty and exercise your freedom to speak in the spirit of prophecy  Do it!!!!

Tomorrow as we fast and pray together I will be mindful again of our nation and our leaders.  God bless you and keep you, Jim
