Hunger Games

As I prayed this morning asking for Holy Spirit to open my eyes and heart to hear from God I happened upon the book of Obadiah.  When is the last time you read this page and half book?  I know we have all been praying for Israel in these trying times but this morning I was reminded that we should also start praying for their neighbors who have been rattling sabers lately.  Obadiah was called out to speak to Edom, you remember the story about Esau, Jacobs brother who founded Edom in the hill country.  When Jerusalem was captured by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. they not only did not go to their aid but they gloated and took part in the destruction.  They failed to realize that their survival depended upon their humility before God.  Verse 10 says, “Because of the violence you did to your close relatives in Israel, you will be filled with shame and destroyed forever.  When they were invaded you stood aloof refusing to help them…you acted like one of Israel’s enemies.”  All of Israel’s neighbors claim to be related to Abraham but they got confused by a man who led them astray.  So as we pray and fast tomorrow let’s not forget to pray for Israel but also remember Ishmael and his descendants as Obadiah ends his book with these words, the exiles of Israel will return to their land and will occupy and will go up to Mount Zion in Jerusalem to rule over the mountains of Edom.  And the Lord Himself will be King!  God bless you and keep you!

Life does not meet tonight but we will next Tuesday at 7:00.
