Fast Reminder

Good morning, remember with me the story in Matthew 21 where the religious leaders of the day came to Jesus questioning His authority.  He first stumps them with a question of His own about the baptism of John, whether it came from heaven or men.  He begins to excoriate them with a couple of parables.  Remember, John has called them a brood of vipers but Jesus says it much nicer but says the same thing.  He tells them of the father who comes to his two sons, asking them to go to work in his vineyard.  The first one says, nope but he repented later and went into the field.  The second says sure, I will go sir but he does not lift a finger.  Jesus asked which one did the fathers will and they answered correctly, the first one. He then points out how the very lowest of society believed him and were baptized while you, even then did not repent and believe.  I think there is a great reminder in this story for us today.  Many of the religious leaders of today are not preaching repentance and forgiveness, instead, they are leading their flocks into feel-good gospel which results in the sheep accepting the easy way out and letting the leaders do it all.  Are they not doing exactly what the second son did, and saying sure I will go but never do?  Charles Spurgeon said this, “the second son said, I go sir but he went not; and these people do not go.  They talk of repenting, but do not repent.  They speak of believing, but they never believe.  They think of submitting to God, but they have not submitted themselves to Him yet.  They say it is time they broke up the fallow ground, and sought the Lord, but they do not seek Him.  It all ends in a mere promise.” Yes, Sir, I will go when I get around to it.”  I believe that the word He left for us as he ascended was just that,  a word for us all.  “Son, go, work today in My vineyard.”  Love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and go in His name to a dying world.  “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  Amen.” Life meets tonight at 7:00.  We will discuss the two sons and have communi
