God has provided me with a most excellent study/office with a panoramic view of our beautiful back yard. Beautiful thanks to Peggy’s tireless efforts to maintain it. She calls my office my man cave. I am blessed to be able to spend many hours reading and praying in solitude there and have developed a keen interest in birds that I can observe from my seat. Peggy recently added a bird feeder to the yard and it has provoked many new visitors. I became aware of the peace that seemed to permeate the feeder and the entire yard. They seemed to all get along fine, all different species. That was a blessing to observe until one day last week three Blue Jays showed up. I was intrigued by the fact that they just took over and all the others stepped aside. I consulted my new bird book about it and found that the Jays are famous for this. As I considered all of this and my mind went to preparing for our fast tomorrow I remembered how prevalent birds were in scripture. 55 versus about birds. Remember they were the first creature mentioned above the water in Genesis, they were used to find the new earth after the flood, they were used to feed Elijah when he was starving and afraid. I especially love Matthew 6:26 where they are used by Jesus to teach us the value of worry. So apart from the occasional bully in the neighborhood, ours is to love one another and trust God for our sustenance and our very life Red and yellow, black and white we are precious in His sight and there is no reason for all the animosity and anger among his children. “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them.”
As we fast tomorrow please let’s pray for God’s Spirit to lead us in the path of the birds and bless one another in the name of Jesus. And pray for the occasional Blue Jay that will come into our lives, remembering that God has a plan!!!!
